Report By Femmy Lawson
Thousands of placard-carrying people of Opu Nembe, the hometown of the APC’s gubernatorial candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva today besieged the streets in the ancient town, to welcome the campaign Train of Governor Seriake Dickson in continuation of his campaign tour ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa state.
Opu Nembe is the paternal birthplace of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC in the election, Chief Timipre Sylva. While Sylva is still trying to woo voters to his side ahead of the election, thousands of Indegenes of the area says they are throwing their weight behind Governor Seriake Dickson because of the inability of the APC to find a credible candidate for the governorship poll. Some of the placards had inscriptions which read, “Opu Nembe says no to Sylva,” “Dickson is the Answer and “Sylva lacks electoral value”.
One of the community leaders, who gave his name as Chief Adaye, told newsmen that the people of the state deserved better candidate than their son Sylva, hence the decision to throw their weight behind the candidature of Governor Dickson and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. According to him, the ex-governor should go and clear himself of the corruption charges levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission before seeking to govern the state again.
While still waiting for the arrival of the PDP’s candidate, Governor Seriake Dickson, most activities in the town are at standstill as the people are all out in the carnival like rally to declare their support for Governor Dickson in the December 5, Governorship election .
