News Release: President Buhari Should Not Subvert Democracy In Bayelsa State

President Buhari

The Bayelsa Patriots wishes to call the attention of Nigerians particularly the people of Bayelsa State on the latest move by President Muhammadu Buhari to deploying parts of the allocated funds for the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC to bribe Bayelsa state’s voters in order for them to vote for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Chief Timi Sylva who is believed to be one of the major financier of the election of President Buhari during the 2015 general election.

Only recently, there was a Presidential directive to the NDDC which orders contract to be allocated to companies belonging to Timi Sylva with upfront payments on such job many of which the “contractor” is yet to neither locate nor move to site.

We view the latest action of the President and his party, APC as an attempt to subvert our fledging democracy.
From all indication, President Buhari’s major preoccupation for now is how capture the PDP controlled states by all illegitimate means not minding the outcome of such actions and its implication on a democracy.

Six month after taking over the mantle of leadership of the country, the Buhari’s administration has not focused on executing people-oriented projects or fulfilling any of its campaign promises but rather wasting time and our collective resources on grabbing power at all cost.

May we therefore at this juncture advise President Buhari not to abuse national institutions with his intent of deploying the police and the army to intimidate and harass ordinary citizens of Bayelsa state before and during the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

We wish to restate our commitment to the protection of our democracy and the defense of free, fair and credible elections. Who governs Bayelsa state in the next four years shall be determined at the polls and no amount of bribery and intimidation can change the determination of our people.
