Poem: Retired General Nightmare

By Chidi Anthony Opara

Stiff-necked,
Sticking fore-finger
Into every election pot.
Retired General Nightmare
Struts
This dark space again
Shouting a strange slogan
“Chenji!”

The mind moves
To the night after
Democracy was declared dead again.
General Nightmare
Clothed in scary cloth
Scared us all.
Jubilation of the day before
Died.
Day broke,
The nightmare expired.

The nightmare appeared again
Behind a nightmare with dark goggles.
Day broke,
The nightmares expired.

Retired General Nightmare
Struts
This dark space again
Shouting a strange slogan
“Chenji!”

Let the day break,
Let the nightmare expire.
