The bill for a law to amend the Imo State Autonomous Community Council Administration Law no 1 of 2012 as amended has been passed into law having passed through third reading in the Imo State House of Assembly.
The bill was sponsored by Hon. Kingsley Dimaku representing Ehime Mbano and co-sponsored by seven other lawmakers.
Speaking on the amendment, the chief sponsor, Hon Dimaku disclosed that an electoral panel will be set up while the House will partner with CGC for proper functioning.
Also speaking on the amendment of the bill, the member representing Isiala Mbano State constituency, Hon.Simon Iwunze suggested the removal of politicians including the interim committee chairmen from the Community Government Council election and appointments.
According to Hon. Iwunze, the Chairman must be a civil servant of not less than level 13 while the two others will be appointed by the commissioner. While Hon.Ikechukwu Amuka representing Ideato South moved for the third reading of the bill.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu commended the lawmakers for their participation and support of the bill and warned those that will conduct the election to ensure that only credible people are announced as winners, maintaining that the House will not tolerate fraud.
Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu cautioned the lawmakers that the Imo State House of Assembly has risen above partisan approach to issues and charged them to aim at moving the House and State forward.
Meanwhile, the Imo State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointed of Dr. Lewi Obodo as the interim Committee Chairman of Oguta Local Government Area following the removal from office of the former chairman Hon. Henry Igbomezie.
