Some sons and daughters from Akabo in Ikeduru L.G.A. of Imo State based in the United States of America under the aegis of Akabonneji Association USA, have donated some books and writing materials worth many thousands of naira to primary and secondary schools in Akabo Ikeduru.
Handing over the educational materials to a daughter of the place Chief (Mrs.) Stephina Mbata for delivery, the president of the association, Chief Adonis Njokubi who spoke on a telephone interview from the US said the gesture was to help raise the quality of education in schools in Ikeduru.
Speaking during the distribution of the materials to schools in Ikeduru, the Education Secretary of Ikeduru L.G.A. Mr. Kemas Manusor said that the donations were very apt and a complement to Governor Rochas Okorocha’s policy on education in Imo State.
In an interview with press men, the Head Teacher of Akabo Community Primary School Mrs. Cecelia Agim, said that the books will encourage the pupils to come to school.
On the other hand, the principal of Akabor High School, Dr. Amos Agwamba, also commended Akabonneji for remembering their people at home and prayed God to protect and strengthen them in all their endavours abroad.
Some of the pupils who spoke to the press thanked the association for investing in their education and prayed for God’s blessings on them.
Schools that benefited from the donation included Central School Akabo, Community School Akabor, Akabo Primary School, Amii Community School Akabo and Akabo High School
Among those who accompanied Mrs. Mbata during the distribution of the materials were the Ikeduru Chapter Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers Pastor Philpi Nwansi, Head of Personnel Ikeduru Local Government Education Authority Mrs. Ethel Opara, Chief Lambert Iwueke etc
