|Obi; Anambra State Governor|
Report By Campaign For Democracy South-East Region Publicity Arm
The Campaign for Democracy (CD) South-East Region has warned Gov. Peter Obi to forget any plan of conducting local council election in Anambra state because of timing.
``We are against conducting a council election now that the state governorship election is only five months away,’’ CD said.
The statement, released to reporters in Awka, Anambra State, was signed by Dede Uzor A. Uzor, Chairman, CD South-East Region.
``It is very surprising that the governor would contemplate conducting local government election only five months to the state governorship election. The governor had collected over N300 billion as local government allocations, using local government council caretaker committees, which is against the wish of people and residents of Anambra state”, the statement further said.
CD also alleged that the over N300 billion collected cannot be equated with the developments on the ground.
``Gov. Obi should leave conduct the council election to the administration coming after his, because Anambra people and residents would not get a free-and-fair election if the Governor hastily conducts the local government election. Any attempt to go ahead with the election would be resisted”, CD warned.
