News Report: Pope Benedict XVI To Retire As “Pope Emeritus”

Father Federico Lombardi, Director of the Press Office of the Holy See said yesterday in a news briefing that Pope Benedict XVI due for retirement tomorrow would assume the title of “Pope Emeritus” or “Emeritus Roman Pontiff” on retirement.  He disclosed further that the Pontiff would retain the title of “His Holiness

Fr. Lombardi also disclosed that the retiring Pope would continue to be known as Benedict XVI and would be wearing a "simple white cassock", while his ring of office, known as the “Fisherman’s Ring” would be destroyed along with the "Seal of the Pontificate".
